What is a Fixed IP SIM card?

A fixed IP (static IP) SIM always presents the same IP address when it connects. Standard mobile SIMs receive a dynamic address each session, making remote access awkward. With a fixed IP SIM you always know the address, so you can log in, monitor, push updates and integrate the device into your network policy with zero guesswork.

Where it’s used: routers and gateways, CCTV/NVRs, PLCs and telemetry, SCADA, smart city infrastructure, kiosks, EV chargers, metering and environmental sensors.

Why fixed IP matters in 2025

Post-2G/3G world

Legacy M2M has shifted onto 4G and 5G. Remote access must be rebuilt properly with static addressing and VPNs.

Security expectations

Exposed devices are scanned within minutes. Private fixed IP with VPN-only access is now the default.

Roaming & resilience

Multi-network and cross-border fleets are normal. Stable addressing is the glue that keeps monitoring and control consistent.

Public vs Private Fixed IP

TypeHow it worksSecurity profileBest fit
Public fixed IP Device has a static, globally routable address. You can open selected ports or run a site-to-site VPN. Requires strict firewalling, credential hygiene, logging and IP allow-lists. CCTV backhaul, telematics servers, managed engineering access.
Private fixed IP Device receives a static address on a private APN. It is not on the public internet. Access is only via authorised VPN into the core. Strongest posture. Minimises attack surface; aligns with modern controls. Utilities, BMS, SCADA, smart city, healthcare, regulated environments.
Rule of thumb: if unsure, choose private fixed IP + VPN. It’s the industry standard now.

Multi-network SIMs for resilience

Fixed IP only helps if the device stays online. Our SIM profiles can attach to EE, O2, Vodafone and Three in the UK and will select the best signal automatically. That removes single-network dead zones and supports rural or mobile sites. Multi-network fixed IP is available on both public and private options.

Roaming IoT SIMs with fixed IP

For fleets that cross borders, choose EU or Global profiles with fixed IP anchored to our core. Devices keep a consistent addressing model while roaming across hundreds of networks, simplifying whitelists, ACLs, monitoring and integrations.

Security that fits modern IoT

Network controls

  • Private APN to keep traffic inside a closed network.
  • VPN-only access for private fixed IP (OpenVPN, IPSec, WireGuard).
  • Source IP allow-lists and minimal ports for any public exposure.

Operational hygiene

  • Disable unused services; rotate credentials; use keys where supported.
  • Usage and session alerts; SIM lock/suspend on anomaly.
  • Separate viewer/operator/admin roles; keep audit trails.

Hardware compatibility and examples

Our fixed IP SIMs work with any 3GPP-compliant LTE or 5G device with a SIM slot or eSIM. Below are common platforms our customers deploy, with typical fixed-IP setups.

Teltonika Networks

  • RUT200, RUT241, RUT901, RUT951, RUT956, RUT906
  • RUTX50, RUTM51, RUTM30 (5G/RedCap)
  • TRB142, TRB145, TRB255, TRB500

Pattern: private APN + OpenVPN client; RMS VPN Hub where required.

Elins

  • Elins 4G/5G industrial routers (panel-mount, compact)

Pattern: private fixed IP with OpenVPN or IPSec; GPIO monitoring for cabinets.

Robustel

  • R2000, R3000, R5020 families

Pattern: private APN + IPSec tunnel to head-end; static routes to PLC lanes.

AMIT / Advantech (ICR/AMIT)

  • IDG/IRM series, ICR variants

Pattern: static IP, VRRP/dual-SIM failover, IPSec or OpenVPN.

Milesight

  • UR32 / UR35 / 5G variants

Pattern: fixed IP + OpenVPN client; template push for fleets.

Digi, Sierra Wireless, Peplink, Cradlepoint

  • Digi IX/WR/TX • Sierra LX/MP/RV • Peplink MAX/Balance • Cradlepoint R/E

Pattern: private fixed IP + IPSec/OpenVPN; enterprise policy control.

Configuration patterns that work

  • Private fixed IP + OpenVPN client on the router; head-end runs the server. Devices remain invisible from the internet.
  • Public fixed IP + VPN-only with all inbound ports closed except the VPN. Use certificates and MFA at head-end.
  • Gateway mode: one router exposes a fixed IP; LAN PLCs/NVRs accessed through the VPN.
  • Dual-SIM/WAN failover with policy routing to keep the fixed-IP path primary.

Typical applications

CCTV & Security

Fixed IP for NVRs and cameras, clean diagnostics, rapid incident access.

Smart Buildings & BMS

HVAC, access control, lifts and metering on a private APN.

Utilities & Energy

Substations, renewables, EV chargers, grid monitoring.

Industrial Automation

PLC and SCADA gateways reachable for control and updates.

Retail, POS & Kiosks

Stable payment terminals with network segregation.

Transport & Temporary Sites

Events, construction cabins, pop-up branches and welfare units.

Frequently asked questions

Do fixed IP SIMs work with 5G routers?

Yes. Our profiles support 4G LTE and 5G (including RedCap). LTE-M and NB-IoT are available on selected plans.

Can I access devices behind the router?

Yes. Use VPN, port forwarding or policy routes to reach LAN devices such as PLCs or NVRs.

Will the IP change when the SIM roams or switches network?

No. Addressing is assigned at the core, so network selection does not affect the IP.

Which is safer, public or private fixed IP?

Private fixed IP with VPN is safer for most projects. Public fixed IP must be tightly firewalled, allow-listed and monitored.

Do you support eSIM?

Yes. We can push eUICC profiles to compatible hardware to remove shipping delay and reduce tamper risk.

Can I pool data across SIMs?

Yes. Pooled bundles are available to smooth usage spikes across fleets.

How do I restrict access to my devices?

Use VPN-only access, source IP allow-lists, per-role credentials and disable services you don’t need.

What happens if I exceed my data plan?

Portal alerts trigger at agreed thresholds. Top-ups or plan changes can be applied immediately.

Do you offer static IPv6?

Yes. Fixed IPv6 is available on request for specific deployments.

Can you preconfigure routers before shipping?

Yes. We can provide templates or stage devices with APN and VPN settings for zero-touch installs.
